The newest franchise in NPB, the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, call Kleenex Stadium Miyagi home. This outdoor stadium is also one of the smallest with a capacity of just 22,000 seats. While the team is new, the stadium was built in 1950 and then renovated prior to the 2005 season when the Eagles started play. Everything inside the ballpark feels a bit tight because of this with small seats and narrow concourses.
The Eagles have done a good job of providing a festive atmosphere outside of the ballpark before you enter the stadium. The entire perimeter of the stadium is lined with activities and vendors. You can try your hand at speed pitch, watch the live entertainment from the stage in front of the main gate, have your kids ride the Eagles Express train around the ballpark, or just go shopping for food and souvenirs. When you go into the stadium, you will be confined to your section so there will not be as much exploring available to you.
If you arrive at JR Sendai Station, there are three options to get to the stadium. You can walk. The stadium is located about one mile due east of the station. You can take a cab or jump on board the JR Senseki Line heading east and get off at Miyaginohara Station which is right at the ballpark. It is tough to miss with the platform walls and signs painted in Eagles colors.
